“Dumbledore, I think, thinks of himself as a bit of a monster because of things he’s done, or not done, in the past. And it’s still really scarred him and, in a way, spoiled what was an idyllic childhood and then everything sort of fell apart. So he carries those scars and thinks of himself, I think, as a damaged individual who’s not all good, which is interesting because I think when you know Dumbledore in the Potter books, we think he’s the absolute icon of goodness.”
