“The third one is just so great, I have to say. It’s just a wonderful film. Johnny Depp is no longer playing Grindelwald but this wonderful actor named Mads Mikkelsen is playing Grindelwald and he brings a whole different kind of weight to the thing. Johnny did a great job as well, obviously, but this has been the most challenging one yet because I’m trying to keep the essence of all of the Beasts movies alive, but there’s just epically huge scenes, and a bunch of them in this movie, and it’s totally kicked my butt.”
Q: Is that a good thing?
“Last night at 10.30 doing choir I would not say it’s a good thing, after a triple session, but yes, of course it’s a good thing. I’ve been challenged to the max and David Yates, the director, is the T-Rex of note givers. I look at these notes from David, and I tell him all the time, when I see a note in my email box I go ‘Oh no it’s pages’, but it’s great. His notes are always about one thing – story. Am I telling the same story the director is telling? And if I’m not then we have a dissonance, we have a problem that I have to figure out – how to tell the same stories.”
